Church sound systems
The
traditional approach to sound systems in churches is to position column
loudspeakers on the structural pillars or the walls of the church , painted to
blend in with decor or the stone. Column speakers are particularly suited to
this environment giving a well balanced speech reproduction with good projection
to the rear of the congregation with minimal reverberation. The amplifier is in
most cases is placed in a room (the vestry perhaps) in a secure environment with
a radio microphone (lapel) and one or two wired mic’s on the pulpit and lectern,
all linked to an induction loop system. In this configuration you have a
practical solution to amplifying speech in the church with minimal cost and
simple to operate. We are happy to install this system if it is suitable for
your purpose but are there drawbacks to this method?
In our experience we need to keep it simple but have a good degree of control
over the volume of the mic’s.
Do you have guest speakers? Stand in Ministers? Small midweek worships? Large
weddings? Larger Funerals? School services?
With different ministers having soft or powerful voices using the same
microphone we need to alter the volume and with a large congregation the
increase in background noise and sound absorbsion this will not only effect the
perceived volume but the tonal qualities of the system. So what do you do ?
Adjust the controls, but can you hear from the vestry?
We are increasingly building cabinets inkeeping
with the surroundings to accommodate amplifiers & mixers with secure storage and
accessibility,
positioned at the back of the church. This gives the user more control over the
sound, listening via the same loudspeakers as the congregation and not via a monitor in a room
that you cannot get to discreetly. With systems already installed we are
upgrading them by adding a mixer only reducing the cost by keeping your
amplifier and speakers but giving you more control and more channel inputs,
commonly 10 mic’s and 2 tape / cd inputs This should keep the Schools happy with
more mic’s the ability to record the service and play prerecorded music or
plugging in an electronic keyboard.
The speakers may be upgraded to a “bose” column or cabinet type used in the more
modern church for the reproduction of live music etc but this will increase cost
substantially although we are happy to design and install systems for live music
with “professional” equipment, it is not the prime concern of this web page.
With
all of this in mind why not contact us for a quote on installing a new sound
system, deaf-induction loop or upgrading your old system for more control, extra
mic inputs or a new radio microphone.
Inter-m LoudSpeakers
The CS-720, CS-730 and CS-740 Indoor Column
Speakers (20, 30 and 40w 100V line respectively) are designed for both music and
speech.
Their light grey colouring and compact, clean lines will harmonise with most
decor and make them ideal for churches, leisure centres and shopping malls.
The CS-700 Series speakers are supplied complete with universal brackets.
Wharfedale Loudspeakers
The
demands of high output near field reproduction are complex. The operating band
must be wide enough for credible music and natural speech reproduction and the
sound must remain clean at high levels. The Program 60’s combination of compact
size, even coverage and high output make the system an excellent choice for a
broad range of applications. The Program 60 is a dual 6.5 inch LF and one 1
inch HF driver system with Wharfedale proprietary designed driver units.
